Shout out to all the mamas out there who thought this might be a good read. That means you have TIME to read this, which means you have time for yourself! YAY! Cheers to that!
My boys were born 18 months apart. We thought this would be the best idea EVER, since we planned to homeschool and knew it would be easiest to teach when they are close in age.
We were wrong. But then we were right!
Let me explain.
Those first 3 years were….well…hell. {gasp} Yes, I know, I said it. But I was never that mom who excelled with babies. In fact, it was a struggle of postpartum D-word. So I’ll just leave it at that.
But OH BOY as they started to get older, life was GOOD! And I FINALLY felt like the old me was back.
This is thanks to two things: my oils and the routine I stepped into with them.
When it got to the point where I could feel not guilty about them watching a couple of TV shows first thing in the morning, I started my new routine.
The 8 steps in my daily routine:
Trip to the washroom. I want an uninterrupted hour of time and if my bladder is still full from last night, I know I’ll be struggling to hold it in during my meditation. My only thoughts will be of how much longer I can hold it without peeing myself. So pee first, people.
Yoga. Hello YouTube! Oh how I love thee! I enjoy ‘Yoga with Adriene’ and ‘Tara Stiles Yoga’. Depending on how I’m feeling, I’ll do anywhere between 5-20 minutes. Pop in some Wild Orange and Peppermint in the diffuser and off you go doing downward dogs, and a bunch of other positions I can't pronounce.
Meditation. Once again, let’s turn to our lovely YouTube. If you aren’t too sure about how this goes, find ‘5 minute guided meditation’ and start there. You can increase from there. Or, on the day where you try to convince yourself you REALLY don’t have time, find a 1-minute guided meditation. Anything is better than nothing.
Water. Fill up a mason jar with filtered water and 2-3 drops of Lemon essential oil. Then drink. The whole thing. Your digestive system and filtering organs with thank you by offering you clearer and brighter skin. High fives!
Reading. I’m a big fan of reading books that make me a better person. That’s not to say I won’t find some fiction novel entertaining on vaca, but any read that makes me a better human is what I’m going for. Read a chapter or two a day.
Intention for the day. I’m a fan of card decks. No, no, not those ones. The ones that you randomly draw from to give you inspiration in your day. Check out the Kris Carr deck of Love Notes.
To-dos. Aside from my most important work of homeschooling, I run a pretty big biz! This mama’s got to prioritize if I’m going to get anything done. So off to my dōPLANNER I go and lay out the stuff that NEEDS to get done, could get done, and things that can be saved for later in the week.
Affirmations. Again - YouTube. If I feel like I’m struggling with balance, I’ll search ‘affirmations balance’. If it’s money believes ‘affirmations money’ and if it’s craving chocolate….oh, wait….I don’t think I’ve found an affirmation for that yet.
The key to this routine is consistency. That means every day. Yes, that means every day. One more time? Every day.
Does it need to be done first thing in the morning? No. Does it need to be a full hour? No. Does it need to be every day? You know the answer to this one…
I challenge you to a DUEL! Wrong post…I challenge you to set your own routine and follow it for a whole week and check in to see how you feel.
